Amber Upchurch, owner of Orion Birth, is a licensed birth doula serving Moms in Santa Monica, Venice, Playa Vista and the South Bay. She is committed to empowering women throughout their pregnancy and birth journey. Whether you decide to have a home birth, hospital birth, medicated or non-medicated birth, or choose to have a VBAC … she has your back!
Amber found her calling when she went through a challenging birth and postpartum experience with her first son. She knew she needed to make it her mission to help as many Moms as possible through their birth journey. Amber is now a Mother to Lucas, Clementine and fur Mama to their Bernese Mountain Dog, Luna.
Her husband Alex is a native to Los Angeles. Soon after their wedding in the Catskills of New York, Amber and Alex drove cross country to LA looking to call it their new home. In 2020 they started their family! A challenging time to say the least.
Amber completed her doula training with the experts at Bini Birth. Her instruction was led by renowned award winning birth doula, Ana Paula Markel.
Armed with her comprehensive training and with her own experience giving birth to her two children - you can feel confident and empowered with Amber as your birth doula.
Mission Statement
As a Mother, as a woman and as a doula-it is my mission to give you an empowering birth experience. I will arm you with the evidence based knowledge to make informed decisions for the biggest moment of your life-giving birth. Knowledge is power.
As DONA International founder Penny Simkin says, “The most predictable thing about childbirth is its total unpredictability.” While that may be true, it doesn’t mean you can’t have the knowledge to make confident decisions for yourself and your birth experience.
As a Mother, as a woman, and as a doula-it is my mission to support you physically and emotionally through labor. I will get you in-tune with your mind, body, and soul while helping support your Motherly instincts.
Guiding you through different labor positions, massages and breath work techniques will all be part of ensuring that you are getting everything you need during each stage of labor.
I also believe in the importance of ambiance and having a comfortable, safe birth environment. These things are essential during labor and I will do anything I can to create that for you.
As a Mother, as a woman and as a doula-I will advocate for you. If you have a partner, I will make sure they are empowered with the knowledge to support you and advocate for you during the birthing process as well.
It is also my mission to bridge the gap between birthing individuals and doctors so women can give birth without fear. Whether you’re planning a hospital birth, home birth, medicated, unmedicated or vbac-I want to empower you. I am here for you.
